Welda Sellers Rush

Miles – Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the services for Welda B. Sellers Rush, our sweet Mom, passed away on April 30, 2016 at the age of 93. Our loss is Heaven’s gain. Welda was born in Appling County, Georgia on March 9, 1923 to Isaac and Pearl (Deen) Sellers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Denton Rush; brothers, Cecil, Gerald, and Wilton Sellers; two sisters, Cornelia Roberson and Betty Beck; and the father of her sons, Virgil Morgan.

After graduation in 1940, she married and moved to Jacksonville, FL. In 1952 she met and married Denton Rush who adopted her three sons from her previous marriage. She and her family moved from Jacksonville to Fernandina Beach and a daughter was born. The family then moved to El Cajon, CA, Brunswick, GA, and then back to Fernandina. Welda worked at the Fernandina Recreation Center for over twenty years as a secretary to the director, a job she loved. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as Relief Society president for many years in the Kingsland, GA and Fernandina branches. She attended church faithfully until her health would not allow. After the death of her husband in 1997, she moved to Jacksonville to live with her oldest son and his wife. In 2008, she moved into Wyndham Lakes Independent Care and finally to Heartland Manor Care in 2014.

Welda is survived by her sons, James Rush (Carol), Don Rush, Larry Rush (Ann); daughter, Cynthia Mercer (Eddie); grandchildren, Joel, Amber, Samantha, Chris, Ken, Stan, and Jacob; several great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Altman; sister-in-law, Fan Lee Sellers; and many loved nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at Heartland Manor Care of Jacksonville for their care of our mom and a special thanks to Crystal Singleton who took special interest and care of Mom.

Our mom has left us, but she is now at peace and is once again walking, laughing and sharing wonderful times with her loved ones who went before her. She will always be in our hearts.
