Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral service for Mrs. Velma Courson Mumford, age 78, who passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Appling Healthcare Pavilion. Mrs. Mumford was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and a member of Asbury Church. She loved flowers, cooking, and enjoyed making arts and crafts that she loved sharing with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Laura Hardwick Courson; and two sisters, Linda Fowler and Catherine Carter.
Surviving is her husband of fifty-eight years, Ronald Mumford; two children, David (Mary) Mumford and Selena (Jessie) Weaver; four grandchildren, Jamie Mumford, Jonathan Mumford, Anna Mumford, and Isaac Mumford; two sisters, Janice (Billy) Miles and Patricia Scarborough; two brothers, William (Claudia) Courson and Wayne (Jonell) Courson; two brother in laws, Lake Carter and Larry Mumford; one sister in law, Diane Lewis; a grand pup named Sydney; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Asbury Church Cemetery with Reverend Fred Anderson and Reverend Billy Gardner officiating.
Pallbearers are Carroll Weaver, Joseph Switzer, Monroe Crosby, Daniel Sikes, Shane Youmans, and Caleb Dyal.
Honorary Pallbearers are all in attendance.
The family requests that all Covid-19 guidelines be followed.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital at stjude.org. Flowers are welcomed as well.
The family greatly appreciates all expressions of sympathy. At this time the family requests that no food be taken to the residence.
