Susan E. McKinney

Our beloved Mother and Mema, Susan E. McKinney, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, April 18, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was 72 years old. She was a native of Savannah, GA, living in Baxley since 1978. She was the heart of our family. For 38 years, Susan was married to her soulmate, Eddie. Together, they raised three daughters to be independent and thoughtful women. As a grandmother, she was known as the "fun Mema", taking the kids on exciting adventures and generally spoiling them rotten. She continued the fun and spoiling with her great grandchildren as well. Susan was known for her great sense of humor and was always ready for a laugh. She was the life of the party and claimed to have never been bored a day in her life. If you knew her, you knew she never met a stranger. And, if you visited her, you knew she always had a pot of coffee on and was eager to chat. After retirement, she and Eddie enjoyed gambling trips to Biloxi. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and fun. She will be dearly missed. Preceding her in death are her husband of thirty-eight years, Jack Edward McKinney Jr., her parents, Robert Eugene Wells and Mavis Williams Wells, and her brother, Kevin Wells. Survivors include her children, Tana Dowling and husband Tim, Janey Dowdney and husband Andy, and Evette McKinney-Byrd and husband Dave; grandchildren, Danni Brooker and husband BJ, Jessy Johnson and husband Derek, Sydney Rinaldi and husband Tyler, Drew Dowdney and wife Jayden, Charlie Byrd and Evie Byrd; great grandchildren, Lyla Brooker, Evan Johnson, Danielyn Johnson, Everleigh Johnson, Charlotte Brooker, Blythe Brooker, and Jaxson Brooker. Sister, Sharon Lord; brothers, Robert Wells, Tony Wells and Keith Wells; special niece and nephew, Amy Houston and David Matthews; special friend, Wade McDaniel. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. from the Omega Cemetery with Reverend Lamar Lee officiating. Active Pallbearers are Tim Dowling, Andy Dowdney, Dave Byrd, Drew Dowdney, BJ Brooker, Derek Johnson, Tyler Rinaldi, David Matthews and Evan Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers are Patrick Crawford, Randy Reddish, the staff of Hospice of South Georgia, and all family and friends. Nobles Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Susan E. McKinney.
