Retta Rosene Carter

Mrs. Retta Rosene Carter of Appling County was called to her eternal rest on the morning of August 14, 2026, at the age of 82, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. Rosene worked many jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was the final position she held before retirement, managing Crooked Creek Golf Course. While she took pride in her work, her greatest calling was caring for her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to those she loved, finding her greatest joy in cooking for her husband, L.C., and gathering family around the table. Holiday meals were especially meaningful to her, as they brought together generations of loved ones. Every meal was prepared with vegetables she and L.C. lovingly grew together on their farm in Baxley. Rosene's love for cooking was matched only by her passion for gardening. Whether tending vegetables or cultivating beautiful flowers, she found peace and purpose in caring for the land. She will always be remembered as a hardworking, selfless woman whose love for her family knew no bounds. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie May Williams and John Benjamin Williams; her brothers, Roosevelt Williams, George Williams, and Bartow Williams; and her sisters, Caroldene Crosby and Margaret Carter. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 43 years, L.C. Carter; her children, Philicia Merritt (Jonathan), Randy Griffin (Amy), and Stanley Griffin (David); her stepchildren, Lamar Carter (Sonja), Carrie Carter (Russell), Stanley Carter (Mary), Jr. Carter, Sherry Carter, and Teresa Carter; along with an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her love and legacy. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Rosene on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nobles Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Hutcheson officiating. Interment will follow in the Carter Cemetery. Pallbearers are Terry Crosby, Larry Crosby, Bradley Griffin, Russell Hutto, Nick Covington, and Lamar Carter. Rosene's legacy of love, hard work, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
