Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral service Mr. Ralph “Max” D. Smart Jr., age 74, who passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. Mr. Smart was a native of Akron, Ohio residing in Jesup, Ga for the past twenty-five years. He was a retired 1ST. Sergeant with the United States Army and a Vietnam War Veteran. Mr. Smart was a small business owner, woodworker, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jesup.
Mr. Smart is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph D. Sr and Geraldine Ettling Smart, and a grandson, Christopher Mitchell.
Surviving is his wife of forty-two years, Judy Smart; two children, Jondavid Smart (Rebecca) and Aimee Williamson (Peyton); nine grandchildren, Chase Mitchell, Clay Smart, Abby Smart, Caitlin Smart, Samantha Williamson, Isabel Gonzales, Elijah Gonzales, Charlotte Williamson, and Norah Williamson; two siblings, Royce Smart (Cindy) and GeorgeAnne Hubert; nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. from the Calvary Baptist Church in Jesup with Reverend Vann Dempsey and Reverend Mark Ledbetter officiating.
Mr. Smart will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will follow in the Georgia Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Glennville at 1:00 P.M.
Active Pallbearers are Steven Manning, Chase Mitchell, Clay Smart, Daniel Gonzalez, Timothy Fisher, and Pate Williamson.
Honorary Pallbearers are The Watchmen and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
