Miles~Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Olin Dewitt Thornton, Jr., 63, who passed away September 3, 2014 at Appling Healthcare. He was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and a retired painter. He was preceded in death by his father, Olin Dewitt Thornton, Sr.

Survivors include three sons, Preston Thornton and wife Melony, Dewitt Thornton, Jr. and wife Heather and Jason Thornton all of Hazlehurst, three daughters, Laronda Carter and husband Randy of Baxley, Stephanie Thompson and husband Dale of Tennessee and Angie Thornton of Vidalia; mother, Laurnell Driggers of Baxley; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Joe Thornton of Florida; one sister, Nellie McQuirt of Baxley; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 3pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 4pm at the Miles~Nobles Funeral Home with the Reverend Andrews officiating.

Interment will follow in the Surrency Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dale Thomson, Blake Thompson, Randy Carter, Olin Thornton, Gavin Jones and Justin Wright.
