Nettie Hunter O'Quinn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nettie Mae Hunter O'Quinn. Mrs. O'Quinn passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at her residence, 189 High Bluff Road in Baxley, Georgia, under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice. Mrs. O'Quinn graduated from Appling County High School in 1948 and went on to attend business college in Brunswick, Georgia. She worked as a secretary at Miller Western Wear for many years. She then worked for, and retired, as a secretary/bookkeeper for Farm Credit Service. Mrs. O'Quinn was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, and love of family and friends. She was previously a member of Zion Baptist Church and then transferred her membership to Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church where she was a member for the last 20 years. Mrs. O'Quinn's hobbies included sewing, fishing, BINGO, word search books, traveling, taking cruises, and cooking for family and friends. She will be remembered for many outstanding qualities but most notably her fishing and cooking skills. Mrs. O'Quinn was born July 29, 1932, to the late Willie Mae McNeal Hunter and Alton Parker Hunter, both of Baxley. Mrs. O'Quinn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Carl L. O'Quinn; brothers: Carol Hunter, David Hunter, Thomas Hunter, and sisters: Jean Carter, Betty Dumas, Nina Beth Wigley and Ann White. Surviving are her children, George C. O'Quinn (Paula) of Baxley, Charles H. O'Quinn of Bristol, and Mary Elizabeth O'Quinn of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Joy O'Quinn Hoffman (Josh) of Mountain Home, Idaho, and J.C. O'Quinn of North Augusta, South Carolina; siblings Mack Hunter of Sumter, South Carolina, A.P. Hunter (Debbie) of Baxley, Mary Alice Ross (Ron) of Baxley; and devoted caregiver Jill Roberson of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11 A.M. with Reverend Rick Brown, Reverend James Minick, and Reverend Michael Sapp officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Active pallbearers are Michael Spell, Melvin Hutchinson, Mike Luke, and Doug Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gideon's International in Mrs. O'Quinn's name.
