Miles~Nobles Funeral Home announces the funeral arrangements for Mr. John Henry Sikes, 86, who passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. He was born and raised in Baxley and was the son of the late Oscar and Tempie Sikes. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Baxley Fire Department for 32 years. Mr. Sikes lived the lord and his family. He had a passion for music, loved singing and playing the guitar and enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Tempie Sikes; a son, Oscar Sikes and eight brothers and sisters, Oscar Sikes, Jr., Leon Sikes, Ollie Mae Suddeth, Ocilla Carter, Mamie Lee Hicks, Estelle Peavey, Edna Sistrunk and James Sikes.

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Gladys Sikes of Baxley; seven children, Susan Johnson and husband Melvin of Washington, GA, Sandra Smith and Billy of Reidsville, GA, Marie Lamb and husband Ronnie of Baxley, Marilyn Jenkins of Baxley, Danny Sikes and wife Jeannie of Baxley, Connie Anderson and husband Kelly of Coolidge, GA and Carolyn Griffin and husband Corey of Baxley; one sister, Ethelyne Hunter of McDonough; one brother, Donnie Sikes of Baxley; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11am at the Miles~Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Rick Brown, Reverend Brian Patrick and Reverend Kelly Anderson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Corey Deen, Dusty Smith, Rusty Smith, Adam Hallman, Daniel Sikes and Chavis Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the active and retired members of the Baxley Fire Department.
