Ira J. Leggett

Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral service for Mr. Ira J. “IJ” Leggett, age 84, who passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Appling Healthcare. Mr. Leggett was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County and a member of Big Oaks Church of God. He was a retired tractor mechanic with John Deere, working for Ocmulgee Tractor Company in Hazlehurst, and Mershon Tractor Company with a total of twenty-two years of service.

Mr. Leggett is preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Ollie Griffin Leggett; and a son, Ira E. “Buddy” Leggett.

Surviving is his wife of sixty-one years, Rosa Lee Leggett; five children, Carlos Leggett, John Leggett (Tonya), Sarah Leggett Tanaka (Juan), Debbie Taylor (Robert), and Beverly Simmons (Charles); eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three siblings, Charlie Leggett (Peggy), Jeanette Smith (Bill), and Ruby Lewis (Richard); many nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Virgina Herrington and Reverend Richard Lewis officiating.

Interment will follow in the Leggett Family Cemetery.

A visitation will be held Friday, February 4, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Nobles Funeral Home Chapel.

Active Pallbearers are Maxwell Leggett, Huey Lane, Jason Leggett, Dale Johnson, Joey Lewis, Matthew Taylor, Michael Beecher, and Stacy Leggett.

Honorary Pallbearers are all in attendance.
