Howard Griffin

Howard Ronald Griffin, age 89, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve morning, 2022 in Crawford, Georgia. 

Howard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolene, and their son, Taylor.  Howard's survivors include his daughter, Cynthia (Tom) Stephenson of Athens, GA, granddaughters, Jacqueline (Ray) Hughes of Cypress TX, Jessica (Brad) Davis of Statham, GA, great grandchildren, Thomas, Mary Frances, and Chase Hughes of Cypress, TX, Ben and Luke Davis, of Statham GA, and his daughter-in-law, Jean Hart Griffin, of Lewisburg, TN.  Howard dearly loved spending time with his family more than anything else.

Howard grew up in Baxley, GA. He was the son of Earl Griffin and Ione Bullard Griffin.  He graduated from Appling County High School where he was captain of both the baseball and football teams. He was drafted into professional baseball, attended South Georgia College, and later served in the United States Army. As a child and young man Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baxley. In his later years he was a member of The Foundry Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. 

Howard's enthusiastic personality and his love for serving and caring for people allowed him to experience a long and successful career in the insurance business.  He began his career in 1952 and retired in 1989.  He then entered the car business, a profession he found to be fun. He worked as a salesman and General Manager until 2010.

Howard was an avid dove and quail hunter and dog trainer. He had a number of bird dog companions. Howard loved serving and entertaining others. He will be greatly missed by all those who spent time with him.

We welcome all family and friends to join us at 2:00pm on Friday, December 30, 2022, at the Omega Cemetery in Baxley, Georgia, to celebrate the life of Howard Griffin. Family members Reverend Ray Hughes and Brad Davis will be in charge of the celebration.
