Miles - Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Joseph Elliott Carter, age 52, who passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Appling Healthcare Systems. He was a member of the 1980 graduating class of Jeff Davis High School, a 1982 graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and a 1984 graduate of Mercer University. Elliott was a member of the A.B.A.C. and Mercer University tennis teams playing all four years of college; he was the former tennis coach at Brewton Parker College, the community tennis coach at Jeff Davis County High School since 2000, attended Crosby Chapel United Methodist Church and was co-owner of Peacock Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeke R. and Maxine C. Carter and father- in - law, Wilbur W. Peacock.
Surviving is his wife, Cynthia Peacock Carter of Hazlehurst; daughter, Jordan L. Carter and fiancAC. Austin Griffin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; mother-in-law, Wynelle Crosby Peacock of Baxley; two brothers, Zeke R. Carter III and wife Susan of Smyrna and John C. Carter and wife Eileen of Duluth; one nephew, Michael Carter of Smyrna, two nieces, Megan Carter of Atlanta and Sarah Carter of Smyrna; very special family friends, Jimmy, Shirley, Andrew and Sarah Maley of Hazlehurst.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Miles - Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Roy McClung and Creig Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in the Crosby Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Active Pallbearers will be Ethan Stone, Tony Pham, Payne Eason, Stephen Tillman, Jared Turner and Cole Harrison.

Honorary Pallbearers should be at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
