Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death of Mr. Edgar Durant Flowers, age 94, who passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at his residence. Ed Flowers was born May 21, 1928, in Bladen County, Carvers Creek, North Carolina to James Edgar and Lillie Williamson Flowers. Ed graduated from Elizabethtown High School in North Carolina and served three years in the United States Army in Japan. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in forestry; worked as a forester for Union Bag, Union Camp and International Paper retiring after thirty-four years in 1989. Ed was a member of the Baxley Jaycees, a long-time member of the Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Award recipient, served as secretary for twenty-nine years, 1994 President and a 2014 inductee into the Lions District 18-N Hall of Fame, a voting delegate for the 82nd International Convention in San Diego, California and the 83rd International Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii, and displayed flags at businesses on special days and collected eyeglasses. Ed served as treasurer of the Tri County Fair and was a member of the Baxley First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, a member of the Church Council, Assistant Treasurer from 1991-1992, Treasurer from 1993-2010 and again as Assistant Treasurer from 2011- until present. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters, on the Board of Directors of the Appling County Heritage Center, member of the Arts Council since its organization and a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America.  

Mr. Flowers is preceded in death by his parents, James Edgar and Lillie Williamson Flowers, daughter-in-law, Melissa Flowers, son -in- law, Donald Prescott, siblings, Jim Flowers, Dorothy Elliott, Freddie Brockington, David Flowers, and Elkanah Flowers.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Mary Louise Flowers, son, James “Patrick” Flowers, daughter, Lillie Prescott; grandchildren, James Flowers, ITSI(SS) Tyler Flowers, Kristen Prescott, Kimberly Prescott, and Kaitlyn and husband Major Kyle Singletary, great grandchildren, Nathanael Singletary, Eleanor Singletary, and Hudson Singletary and sister- in law, Cleo Flowers.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 2 P.M. from the Baxley First United Methodist Church with Reverend Steve Meguiar officiating.

Visitation will be held one prior to the service on Wednesday.

Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery with Military Honors.

Active Pallbearers are Bobby Flores, Jamin Miles, James Flowers, Kyle Singletary, and Ronald Prescott.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Baxley Lions Club and the Appling County Heritage Center.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind at glcb.org, Baxley First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Main St. Baxley, GA 31513, Carvers Creek United Methodist Church, in care of Brenda Marshall, P.O. Box 404 Riegelwood, NC 28456.
