Miles~Nobles Funeral Home announces the death of Earl Ammons, 70, who passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Jeff Davis Hospital under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice. He was a lifelong resident of Appling County and owner and operator of Ammons 66 for 48 years. He served on the Appling County School Board for 16 years, a charter of the Appling County Exchange Club, past President of the Appling County Booster Club, past President of the Appling County Touchdown Club and a two time nominee for Appling County Citizen of the Year. He was ordained as a Baptist Deacon in 1965, a member of the Baxley Church of God where he was an active member in his church community and youth activities.


He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Wilma Ammons, Jr., grandparents, Reverend Jim and Pearl Mixon and Leo and Bertie Ammons
Survivors include his wife, Linda Ammons of Baxley; two sons, Scottie Ammons and wife Becky of Baxley and Shane Ammons and wife Valerie of McDonough; six grandchildren, Brett, Laura, Joshua, Hope, David and Brady; one brother, J.L. Ammons; three sisters, Linda Crosby, Nelda Coleman and Louise Mincey; and a host of nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 5-8pm at the funeral home.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2pm at the Baxley Church of God with Reverend Lamar Lee, Reverend David Deen and Reverend Brad Park officiating.


Mr. Ammons will lie-in-state one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Interment will follow in the Omega Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will be Orby Lamb, Bob Wiggins, David Douglas, Charles Ray Stipe, Jimmy Stipe, Charles Stone, John Lewis and Richard Nix.


Honorary pallbearers will be the Appling County High School class of 1961 and former employees of Ammons 66.
