Donnie Ray "Oakie" Varnadore, a distinguished United States Navy Veteran, passed away on January 28, 2024, at the age of 63. Born on April 21, 1960, in Bacon County, Donnie dedicated an impressive twenty-three years of his life in service to his country.

Donnie's military career was marked by incredible dedication and numerous commendations. He received the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy "E" Ribbon, Navy UNT Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Sharpshooter Pistol Ribbon, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Donnie's courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers were exemplary throughout his military journey.

Donnie is preceded in death by his father, James Olan Varnadore.

Beyond his exceptional military service, Donnie was a loving son and cherished friend. He is survived by his mother Dorothy S. Dyal of Statesboro. The loss of Donnie will be felt deeply by his family and friends who held him dear.

Among those mourning Donnie's passing is his wife, Tina Hansen-Varnadore; his three siblings: Pamela Reed (Steven), Virgil Thomas Dyal (Shana Belle Sellers), both of Statesboro, and Sherry Woods of Vidalia. Donnie's kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many individuals whom he considered family.

Additionally, he leaves behind three nephews: Kale Reed, Zachary Dyal, and Jacob Caraway; two nieces: Grace Reed and Annabelle Thompson; as well as a great nephew named Jaxton Ray Thompson, who brought immense joy to Donnie's life.

Donnie found solace in the company of his loyal companion Trix Varnadore. Their bond was unbreakable, truly proving the saying that dogs are a man's best friend.

A visitation to honor Donnie's life will be held on Friday, February 2nd at Nobles Funeral Home located at 85 Anthony Street in Baxley, Georgia. The visitation will begin at 6:00 PM and conclude at 8:00 PM, providing a compassionate space for family and friends to share memories of Donnie.

The funeral service will take place the following day, on Saturday, February 3rd, at Nobles Funeral Home. The service will begin at 11:00 AM with Reverend Gaynor Ridgdill officiating.

Interment will follow in the Miles Chapel Church Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Surviving as active pallbearers are Allen Stephens, Danny Hardwick, Dylan Mulling, Kale Reed, Jacob Thompson, and Zachary Dyal. 

Donnie's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the honor of knowing him. He will forever be remembered as a devoted Navy Veteran, a beloved son, a caring brother, and a cherished friend. 

The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Geneva Hutchinson at 878 Wilson Crapps Rd. Baxley.
