Miles - Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the death of Alton J. "Dick" Griffin, age 90, who passed away Friday, October 9, 2015 at Appling Healthcare Systems. He was a native and lifelong resident of Appling County; a retired farmer; a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Army and a member of Friendship Congregational Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivylon Griffin; parents, George Washington and Rebecca Yawn Griffin and sixteen brothers and sisters.

Surviving is five daughters; Gail and A.C. Taylor of Baxley, Patsy and Raymond Wheeler of Baxley, Donna and Jerry Taylor of Alma, Wanda and Lodis Higgins of Baxley and Janice Griffin of Baxley; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; a special nephew, Charles Griffin and other family members also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Miles - Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Rick Brown and David Griffin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Friendship Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post #311.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Musical selections will be handled by Debbie Taylor.

Active Pallbearers will be Chuck Taylor, Neil Rogers, Jason Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Rhett Wheeler and Robert Wheeler.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Pavilion C-Hall nurses and staff, Appling Healthcare nurses and staff, Dr. Garland Martin and Dr. Teresa Cezar.

The family will be gathering at the home of Raymond and Patsy Wheeler at 59 Brown Street in Baxley.

Miles - Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory will be in charge of the arrangements for Alton J. Griffin.
