Russell Herrington

Nobles Funeral Home announces the funeral service for Russell Herrington, age 93, who passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Born on November 22, 1930, in Appling County, Russell dedicated his life to both his family and his country. He served for twenty years in the United States Air Force, a proud veteran of the Korea and Vietnam conflicts and was stationed at the first NATO base in Ramstein, Germany. After his military service, Russell pursued a fulfilling career at Hazlehurst Mills, where he dedicated two decades of his life. An avid gardener, Russell found joy in working in his yards and traveling. His generous spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him. Russell had a profound love for his family, which was evident in the deep bonds he created with them. He is survived by his two daughters, Jane Causey (Danny) and Cheryl Tyre (Jason), and is cherished by his nine grandchildren: Janda Turner (Sims), April Poppell (Scottie), Dylan Coleman (Halee), Alexis Davis, Aleah Davis, Myles Davis, Mia Davis, Brandy Brantley (John), and Jody Herrington. His legacy continues through his eleven great-grandchildren, Kalli Poppell, Khloe Poppell, Miller Turner, Jake Turner, Mae Turner, Beckett Coleman, Mackenzie Brantley, Jayden Brantley, Lealan Starling, Embery Starling, and Zoey Starling. He is also survived by three siblings, Bobby Herrington (Jackie), Johnny Herrington (Virginia), and Ula Mae Butler. Russell was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty years, Carolyn Herrington; a son, Michael Herrington; a great granddaughter, Katilyn Smith; his parents, Dewitt and Marnella McKenzie Herrington; and five siblings, Talmadge Herrington, Roy Herrington, Colon Herrington, Carroll Herrington, and James Herrington. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. at Nobles Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Rick Brown, Reverend Tommy Daniels, Reverend Alan Stalvey officiating. Interment will follow in the Zoar Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Nobles Funeral Home. Active Pallbearers are Scottie Poppell, Sims Turner, Jeff Herrington, Billy Butler, Dylan Coleman, Kenneth Drawdy, and Adam Hutcheson. Honorary Pallbearers are the Oreta Williams family, Jeannie Farris Griffin, Shelia Baxley, Jeanie Drawdy, Staff of Lumber City Nursing Home, Herman McKenzie, Mary Edith Googe, Beatrice Johnson, and all in attendance.
