The History of our funeral home began in the 1920’s with the combination of two brothers, Claude and Edd Poindexter operating Tanner-Poindexter Funeral Home and Furniture Company. Fred Strickland Jr. began working with the funeral home in the late 1920’s. The two brothers expanded their funerary services to include insurance sales. The brothers founded the State Mutual Burial Association later becoming Coastal States Life Insurance Company, relocating their home office to Atlanta in 1945.

Fred Strickland Jr. purchased Tanner-Poindexter Funeral Home and Furniture Company in 1929 changing the name to Strickland Funeral Home. Fred operated the funeral home as a family owned and operated business with his son Freddie later joining him upon his completion of mortuary school. The two worked together as a father- son team until the passing of Mr. Fred in 1970. After his father’s passing Freddie continued to operate the business until his passing in 1985.

In 1986, Roy Bass purchased Strickland Funeral Home changing the name to Strickland-Bass Funeral Home. The Bass family operated the funeral home until 1993 when David E. Miles purchased the funeral home changing the name to Strickland-Miles Funeral Home later becoming David E. Miles Funeral Home. David and his wife Louise operated the funeral home business until 2012 when Danny Nobles purchased the funeral home upon Mr. and Mrs. Miles retirement.

Today the funeral home operates as Nobles Funeral Home; still remaining a family owned and operated business since the 1920’s. We offer full funeral and cremation services to the residents of Baxley and Appling County with exceptional attention to detail and the small town feel people expect.
